Having just finished piecing together the first draft of this quarter's newsletter, I sit back to enjoy a cup of tea and find that this issue truly is a source of inspiration to me.
After reading Sayed Rokni's article with an abstract of this year's G. William Morgan Lecture by Graham Stevenson, I am inspired to learn more about techniques for predicting accelerator-induced activity. Perhaps this will be a topic for a future newsletter article.
I'm inspired too by Lorraine Marceau-Day's suggestion that laser safety at accelerators would also make a good topic for discussion in the newsletter. As the practical applications of laser technology expand, this issue becomes more and more important.
As always, I'm inspired by Ralph Thomas' eloquent prose, called into service this quarter to discuss the radiation weighting approach taken by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) in their Publication 92. I'm inspired, as Bob Casey suggests, to take "the time to really understand the technical questions and the potential impact" of the ICRP's approach. I'm inspired to split my reading time this July 4 weekend between a juicy thriller and Publication 92. It's clear where my time would be best spent!
I hope you, too, will be inspired by this issue of the newsletter. If not, think about contributing an article about a topic you care about. Who knows, your passion may inspire others!
