                        Turner Memorial Symposium

In keeping with the Health Physics Society's mission, "to encourage scientific, professional and public education" as it pertains to excellence in the science and practice of radiation safety, the ETCHPS has agreed to sponsor and support public outreach and training sessions in East Tennessee areas near nuclear facilities (i.e. Erwin, Oak Ridge and Chattanooga). Henry Lynn is organizing this effort and presented the idea to the chapter during the June 8, 2010 program meeting. The slides are included here for all to view.  The pilot of this effort has now been scheduled for the evening of March 2, 2012 at Pollard Auditorium in Oak Ridge.

At the Dec 8, 2011 Vendor's Meeting, he provided a poster to be presented May 13-18, 2012, in Glasgow, Scotland (IRPA 13).  He also provided the current Proposed Public Training Schedule.  Both are available here.

Volunteers are needed to help develop materials or make presentations. Please let Henry know by sending a note to his home email address at henryslynn@comcast.net if you are willing to help.

A training session will be conducted at Pollard Technology Conference Center on Thursday, February 23, for volunteers who want to be Moderators, Scientific Judges, Rules Judges, Scorekeepers, or Timekeepers.  More details about the time for the training will be sent to volunteers in advance.

The Tennessee Science Bowl is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Pellissippi State Community College, ORAU, ORISE, and many other companies and organizations. The competition is designed to motivate high school students to excel in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM fields) and to pursue careers in these fields.  The willing team will represent Tennessee at the DOE National Science Bowl® in Washington, DC, on April 26-30, 2012.
