Chapter of the Health Physics Society on October 19th at the Flatwater Grill. We will have a
buffet dinner at 6pm but come early to socialize. Roger Cloutier will
help of reminisce about the chapter's beginings. You may also want to
add other reminiscings from other times over the past 50 years. We will
have Anniversary Tee Shirts available to purchase for $5.00. See

The Birth of the ETCHPS and
Other Reminiscences
Fifty years ago, several East Tennessee health physicists petitioned
the Health Physics Society Board for permission to form a HPS Chapter
in East Tennessee. Happily, the Board accepted the petition and
the Chapter was created in 1960. Although not the first HPS
Chapter, the ETCHPS soon became an important HPS Chapter and has
remained so for fifty years.
Roger will present both hard facts about the formation of the Chapter
and also reveal some reminiscences of what life was like fifty years
ago. These tales will include both serious and lighthearted events.
Most of the hard facts came from the few early ETCHPS records available
today. [Does anyone know where the original charter and Chapter banner
are located?] The lighthearted tales will come from events he and
several others ETCHPS members now recall, or think they
recall.
So, come prepared to wander back into the 1960s. A long-ago time, much
before the creation of WEB pages, email and other necessary,
conveniences of today.
